Acknowledging Art from the heart -Interview with T Allen

Interviewer(me) — “If you could summarise in a few words what Art means to you what would you say”.

T Allen- “To me, art is like freedom, a way to express my emotions, thoughts and imagination. This could involve transforming something that originally doesn’t exist in a physical form into a tangible creation, or to recreate something that already exists into a form of your own perspective.”

Interviewer(me)- “Why would you say you decided to study art”

T Allen- “I chose to study art not only because it’s something i had a passion for but also because i wanted to delve deeper into understanding its essence and exploring how it can extend from a physical form. And to clearly understand the true meaning of art if there is one, apart from my own opinion on what art means to me. Exploring the common ground of what art means for everyone if there is one. ”

Interviewer(me)- “what would you say fuels your Imagination”

T Allen- “believe what originally fuelled my imagination the most was my family. As i would often do portraits of family members. However, now i would say my views on common issues in society. Particularly around women, black women and stereotypes. This sparked my interests in painting women a lot as if they are the superiors in society and life itself.”

Interviewer(me)- “lastly could tell us how you motivate yourself to create your art pieces”

T Allen- “To be very honest, i could have a lot of ideas and not go through with them and that could just be from a genuine art block which makes me unmotivated to work a lot. However, I began to realise if it’s to do with painting an idea i strongly wish to paint as I feel a strong connection to it or want to show others then I become more motivated to work. I used to be motivated by seeing others create, but now i only become motivated when I strongly want to display my vision into an art piece”.
